Ink for Digital Duplicators
Digital Duplicators work using real liquid ink. However, the ink that's used in Standard Digital Duplicators is not that simple. The ink itself is actually an emulsion, meaning that on a not-quite-microscopic scale that ink glops are encapsulated in a bubble of oil. When this emulsion hits the sheet of paper the oil bubble is broken, allowing the fast drying ink the dry almost instantly. This allows us to use a liquid ink applied through a silkscreen process to a flat sheet to dry extremely quickly. Quick drying ink offers many benefits in production, the first of which is that it can speed production as a whole. If my job is already dry it can be flipped over and printed on the backside or it can be boxed up and delivered to the customer. Another benefit of quick drying ink is that there is little to no offset. Offset is when ink from one sheet transfers to another sheet. This can happen in all sorts of different printing processes but in our context we are referring to the ink smearing as one sheet lands on the next. This is generally bad because it negatively affects the quality of the printing but it can also make a mess on the machine or even the operator.
Digital Duplicator inks come in a variety of colors. Custom PMS color ink mixes are available although they must be ordered to meet a minimum quantity.
