Print Finishing is a general term that refers to any process happening after a job is printed. This is most often in reference to folding, bookletmaking, or cutting. Print Finishing is one of the fastest growing market segments in the graphic arts industry. As more print establishments transition to digital there is a growing demand for digital friendly finishing applications. In the world of book publishing run lengths are decreasing to a state in which many books are printed as "one-offs" meaning that only one book is printed at time. Modern perfect binders are capable of producing books in sequence with each book being a different thickness. Many modern print finishing machines have computer connectivity and support a universal automation standard called CIP4. CIP4 is a new stage of automation in which a setup file is loaded automatically when a barcode on a job ticket is scanned, the machine will then automatically set up for the production run.
